Noise in July...

"Since Kettleday happens in between a year less one day, my 4th through 27th Kettledays were all completed in the month of July. Many of my most memorable performances have all happened in July. The first time I ever did my ventriloquist act; Denver 1991. The time I toured with Human Head Transplant through The Netherlands, in 1992. That time in ’94 when I drilled a hole in the sky by skydiving with drill bits. The only time I’ve performed in Nashville was in July 2001. The only time I dug a hole in the ground with live mics was In Stralsund Germany in 2005. Perhaps the most electrifying of all my July performances was in San Francisco in 1993. It was the first time I used Greg Leyh’s ion-gun to charge an entire audience to 5000 volts. The audience became the real show when they all ran around giving each other shocks. And then, there’s August; but that’s a whole nother Kettleday of fish…"

Orchestrated Explosions (1994)

June 18, 1994 at Lost Skulls Mine in the Nevada desert, The Haters unceremoniously detonated a series of explosions. Loud orange fire balls rose towards the night sky. Several from the cheering audience quickly joined in the festivity by helping to put out the resulting small brush-fires. Entitled “Orchestrated Explosions”.

Omniwave Refresher

GX Jupitter-Larsen's new movie Omniwave Refresher is in three acts. The first is done as a kind of documentary. The second act is a puppet show, and the third act is a live action reenactment of the puppet show. Omniwave Refresher is about a scientist who, after a failed experiment of some incomprehensible nature, heads off on a journey to find her meaning of life.

Staring Dakota The Bearded Lady, Crank Sturgeon, Jackie Stewart (Smegma), Suzy Poling (Pod Blotz), and Elden M to name but a few, Omniwave Refresher is about a scientist who, after a failed experiment of some incomprehensible nature, heads off on a surreal and noisy journey to find the meaning of life. A third of the movie is played out as a puppet show.

Totimorphous Ubiety Guide (TUG)

The Haters 37th Anniversary Show was also the premiere of the Totimorphous Ubiety Guide (TUG). Designed & built by GX Jupitter-Larsen, this hand-held analog device requires two people to operate. While GX handled the controls, Jessica King pulled & pushed on the machine’s rigid spring. Each tug affecting the sound produced with the result being a slow pulse. There’s never any question of location with this divining rod for conclusions.

Longhorn Speedway (1997)

"I’ve always relished the low-fidelity of a race track’s PA. There’s simply no other effects-pedal that gives one the same distortion as a speedway’s sound-system. On March 19 1997, I got access to the Longhorn Speedway in Austin for a few days leading up to a show by Survival Research Labs. I wanted to experience what it would be like to hear one’s favourite sounds transformed through such a device. Keeping to the motif, I started with playing car crash sounds over the race track’s PA. I blew the whole sound-system in about a hour. It took all afternoon the next day to fix the amp, and re-wire all the horns around the oval. On the third day I was soon to find out that no matter which one of my favourite sounds I put through the PA, it would always end up sounding just like a car crash in progress..."

Amplified calculators on sandpaper (2004)

19/3/2004 Seattle: Original cast members Colin Upton, Ken Gerberick, and Fraser Hall joined GX Jupitter-Larsen sitting around a small amplified card table. Each rubbed a bright pink calculator against some very harsh sandpaper. Pink dust literally poured off the sides of the tiny table as a thin pink haze hovered over the performers. The Untitled Title Belt was used as an extra sound source. The resulting vibrations were an abrasive severity that seemed to make everyone in the gallery severely happy. This 25 minute performance ended when one of the performers used a crowbar to smash up the table. Entitled “The Haters 25th Anniversary Show.”
